The Pointing Model of the MAGIC Telescope

Due to the big and light structure of the MAGIC -Telescope, a correction for bendings and misalignments of the telescopes axis is neccessary.
This correction is done in the pointing- and tracking-software. A description of the implemented algorithms can be found here or downloaded (ps, pdf).

To get the coefficients for the pointing model, many datasets of nominal and real pointing positions are neccessary.
To get a good pointing model at least 300 datasets are needed.

Instructions how to take data for the Pointing Model and the Starguider (take tpoints) can be found here.
If you have taken already some TPoints, there will still be "holes" in the sky, where no TPoints have been taken yet.
The root-macro findstar.C is looking for stars, which are suitable for TPoints.
Find instructions how to use this macro here.

Do a new pointing model:
To do a new pointing model, one has to fit the parameters of the pointing model with the new datasets and put the new parameters from the fit into the software.
