Research activity:

Since the beginning of my PhD position, I have been working mainly on Galactic high (HMXB) and low mass X-ray binaries (LMXB).
I studied theoretically accretion processes onto neutron stars (NS) in X-ray binaries, in cases in which these processes occur either through the wind of a supergiant star or via an accretion disk.
I analyzed and published X-ray observations of these systems carried out with the newest X-ray telescopes on board the Swift, XMM-Newton, INTEGRAL, Chandra, and RXTE satellites. I acquired a good experience with the relative data analysis software (especially for XMM-Newton, Swift, and INTEGRAL).
In the context of LMXBs, I have been working on theoretical models of interaction between NS magnetospheres and accretion disks, and I already published some papers on this subject. I also published a work on the first X-ray LMXB triple system discovered thanks to observations awarded by our research group.
In the context of HMXBs, I have been working on interactions between NS magnetic fields and winds from supergiant stars. I published a theoretical paper on this subject. I have been also working on data of these systems awarded to my research group through my accepted proposals on Supergiant Fast X-ray Transients with XMM-Newton, Swift, INTEGRAL, and RXTE.
I have been recently involved in a project aimed at searching for magnetars in the Virgo cluster (it was performed through approved simultaneous INTEGRAL and ESO-VLT key programs).
I studied accretion processes in extragalactic objects, and participated to a publication on the Quasar RBS 1124.
I started my first post-Doc position at the ISDC (Switzerland) on 01/04/2009, and I took the duty of the INTEGRAL operation coordinator. As a consequence of this activity, I become interested in the discovery and follow-up of newly discovered transient sources with INTEGRAL, especially millisecond X-ray pulsars and black hole candidates.
I presented my work in a number of international conferences and I gave several oral presentations, as it is described below in the sections “ Conference participations” and “PhD Schools, Collaborations, & Seminars”.
I have referred papers submitted for publication to the Astrophysical Journal (ApJ) and the Astronomy and Astrophysics Journal (A&A). I have been part of the panels for XMM-Newton peer-review proposal selection.
I participated to the development of the newly presented and selected ESA M3 mission LOFT (Large area Observatory For X-ray Timing), and become the LOFT project manager on May 2011. I built and update the official LOFT website, visible at the address:
http://www.isdc.unige.ch/loft
The duty of building and maintaining such a website, together with the archive of the official LOFT documentation, made me an experienced user of Content Management Softwares (e.g., Joomla).
I also have experience I programming with IDL and FORTRAN, and I am an experienced user of UNIX systems.
