Mathias Beck
graduated in physics in 1993 at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. Mathias obtained his PhD in 1996 at the Max-Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg, Germany. During his studies Mathias spent almost five years at CERN, where he was involved in experiments (WA89 and COMPASS) to study charmed-strange baryons. During his PhD studies Mathias was trying to detect signatures of a short lived H-dibaryon decaying into two Σ or two Λ hyperons. Mathias worked on the devlopment and operations of a hadronic spaghetti calorimeter to detect high energy neutrons. After the end of WA89, Mathias was responsible to refurbish this calorimeter and install it at the H1 experiment at DESY, Germany. After his PhD, Mathias turned his focus to software development and large scale data processing.
