  • November 2010: Audard, Baldovin-Saavedra, Carmona, and Pontoppidan are awarded 31.3 hours of Herschel time in Priority 2 to study FU Orionis objects in detail.

  • September 2010: Extension of the Swiss NSF Professorship for an additional year.

  • December 2009: Astronomy & Astrophysics accepts a paper "A multi-wavelength study of the young star V1118 Orionis in outburst" by Audard, M, et al. The paper describes the 2005-2006 outburst of V1118 Ori observed at X-ray (Chandra, XMM-Newton), infrared (Spitzer and ground), and optical (ground) wavelengths.

  • November 2009: Dr. Francesco Fontani leaves our group to take an ALMA fellowship at IRAM in Grenoble. He will continue collaborating on our common projects.

  • July 2008: Dr. Francesco Fontani joins our group.

  • March 2008: The group was awarded time on the APEX millimeter telescope, as part of the Science Verification of the new SHFI receivers. Prof. Audard is PI on 2 proposals ("APEX CO studies of southern FU Orionis outflows" and "APEX studies of the HH 212 molecular outflow") and Dr. Carmona is PI on 1 proposal ("Studying the cold gas in nearby protoplanetary disks")

  • November 2007: Prof. Marc Audard is co-author of an article published in Science on November 29, 2007. Our team has detected a cloud of hot gas (about 2 million degrees) pervading the Orion nebula. An article (in French) in the Tribune de Genève featured Prof. Marc Audard (the same article was featured in the 24 Heures). Another article was printed online in Sciences & Avenir. In addition, several press releases on the article were issued: ESA, ETHZ, MPIA, CNRS. The press releases were taken over by several newspapers and online newspapers. The Science paper can be accessed here

  • October 2007: A second postdoctoral position in star formation is available in our group. Interested parties should click HERE for more details.

  • October 2007: Dr. Andrés Carmona has joined the group.

  • June 2007: The European Space Agency and the professional journal Astronomy & Astrophysics have issued joint press releases for the publication of 15 papers in Astronomy & Astrophysics on the large programme XEST (XMM-Newton Extended Survey of the Taurus Molecular Cloud). Prof. Marc Audard is a lead co-investigator on the XEST project and is author of one paper and co-author of the 14 others. The press releases can be read by clicking on the following links for ESA and Astronomy & Astrophysics. The 15 papers can also be freely accessed.

  • February 2007: Prof. Marc Audard participates in a study of the star forming region of Taurus-Auriga with ESA's XMM-Newton X-ray observatory. An ESA press release was issued on February 22, 2007 and a UNIGE press release (in French) was issued on February 26, 2007.
