JEM-X Off-Line Calibration

The automatic JEM-X calibration is performed automatically at the start of each science analysis with OSA in order to guarantee that the best software tools are used for this important steps. However, a number of revolutions are affected by different problems which makes the automatic calibration fail. In this case, JEM-X team (Carol Anne Oxborrow, e-mail: oxborrow at spacecenter.dk ) manually produces off-line calibration tables that can be used in OSA as a replacement for the automatic calibration. Off-line calibration tables are normally included in the Integral Instrument Characteristics tree. Newer off-line tables may exist which have not yet made their way into the ISDC IC tree, but we make all efforts to minimize this the duration of this period. Ad nauseam details about the calibration status for all revolutions can be obtained directly from the Jem-X web site.

IC files can be automatically updated on the user's site. Please see the OSA download page under "Instrument Characteristics" for more information. It is recommended to update the IC tree before doing a JEM-X analysis. This is particularly important for later revolutions (800+) with the JEM-X instruments, both of which have developed increasing non-linear temperature sensitivity of the gain, which can adversely affect energy calibration in revolutions with either high temperature and gain or those revolutions with large changes in temperature.
