INTEGRAL Data Analysis Software
===============================

Release 5.1 of the Off-line Scientific Analysis (OSA) software
package is now publicly available for download at:

   http://isdc.unige.ch/?Soft+download

The OSA package contains the analysis software for the four
INTEGRAL instruments (IBIS, SPI, JEM-X and OMC), as well as some
generic tools.

OSA 5.1 can be easily installed from the compiled binary tar
files provided for Linux, MacOS X and Solaris operating systems.

The updated Instrument Characteristics (OSA_IC 5.1) shall be used
with OSA 5.1. A new version (23.0) of the Reference Catalogue is
also available.

Changes since the last release:
------------------------------
The main changes compared to OSA 5.0 are:

 * Improvement of the Graphical User Interfaces for all instruments
to allow easy saving, loading and resetting of the parameters
   used for the scientific analysis.

 * IBIS/ISGRI: The building of the detector image (i.e. the
shadowgram) has been improved in three areas to better handle
difficult situations (bright source at border of the field of
view, missing context and module switches affecting ~30% of
the pointings). Another change is the new ability to handle
spectra requiring different Ancillary Response Functions
(ARFs) to prepare for the forthcoming release of three new
   ISGRI ARFs.

 * JEM-X: The gain fitting and correction module was updated to
handle difficult situations. The gain correction should now
be accurate within 3% for all pointings. The image mosaic
tool has also been updated to allow more flexibility to the
   user.

 * IBIS/PICSIT: A bug in the image mosaicing tool causing a
problem in the source positions was fixed. The spectral
extraction has been improved but is still quite unstable.

 * Instrument Characteristics: 17 files have been updated
compared to OSA_IC 5.0. For JEM-X, in particular, there are
new response matrices and a better model for the evolution of
   detector non-uniformities.

 * Reference Catalogue: Many source positions have been updated
   and new sources added.

Public Data in the INTEGRAL Archive
===================================

In a near future we will only keep the new revision 2 data in
the INTEGRAL Archive at: http://isdc.unige.ch/?Data+browse
The older revision 1 data will no longer be accessible.

The re-processing of the data available in the archive with the
latest version of the Off-line Scientific Analysis software
(OSA 5.1) is ongoing with the following priority:
  1) Inclusion of SPI scientific results (result checking)
  2) Update of JEM-X results with OSA 5.1 (to start now)
  3) Inclusion of PICsIT results (started with lower priority)
  4) Update of ISGRI results with OSA 5.1

OSA Documentation
=================

Scientific Validation Reports for OSA 5.x are now available for
all instruments. There are also updated documents for SPI
analysis of Gamma-Ray Bursts. A new document provides a detailed
cross-calibration report for the high-energy INTEGRAL
instruments. These documents are all available at:
   http://isdc.unige.ch/?Support+documents
